eID as a means of identification

What do you need?

Your mobile device

A desktop or laptop computer with internet access

Your identity card and an eID card reader

1

Download the MyGov.be app

Download the MyGov.be app from the app store. How do you find the app? Search for 'MyGov.be' in the app store or open the links to the app in the Apple app store or the Google Play store here.

2

Open the app and set your preferences

Open the app. Before you start the activation, you have to approve the terms of use and you get the opportunity to manage your language and user preferences. You can always change these settings later. Finally, the app asks how you wish to activate. Select eID.

3

Open start.mygov.be on your desktop or laptop computer.

The app will show you a combination of numbers and letters and will ask you to go to the website start.mygov.be on a desktop or laptop computer. You will need to do this on a desktop or laptop computer which can be connected to an eID card reader. This is required to securely confirm your identity in the next step.

4

Enter the activation code

Enter the displayed combination of numbers and letters (activation code) at start.mygov.be. The connection between the website and your app has been made and you can now start your identification with eID.

5

Confirm your identity

Connect your eID card reader, insert your identity card and click on 'Login'. The CSAM website will open and will check the certificates on your identity card. You will be asked to confirm your identity. Do this by entering your personal PIN code.

6

Scan the QR code

Once your identity has been successfully established, a QR code will appear on your computer screen. You need to scan this QR code with your MyGov.be app. In the app, a screen will appear where you can do this quickly and effectively. Once the code has been scanned, your identity is linked to the MyGov.be app on your phone!

7

Choose your PIN code

Finally, the app will ask you to enter a PIN code. Choose a secure PIN code, not a simple (e.g. 112233) or obvious combination (e.g. your date of birth).
